Sri Hemkunt Sahib Yatra 2009 |
In July 2009 with the blessing of Guru Gobind Singh Ji I made my second yatra to Hemkunt Sahib. |
| The yatra started in the Punjab, near Guru Arjun dev Ji's asthaan of Gang Sahib, Kartarpur. Here behind some fields and walls we came across some little known buildings. | Here we looked around the site of Mata Kaula Ji's samadh, now in a quite derelict state. |
| Inside some old frescos on the walls. | Images of frescos on the walls |
| Even the ceiling was decorated in images and patterns. | Close by a most amazing find. This is called CHUBUCHA sahib. Chubucha means a place to make a small chubbi, or dip. Once this place had a small pool (now covered over by a circular concrete stone) and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji used to take a dip in the pool here, even playing the Indian equivalent of chess with Pandey Khan. |
| The journey towards Gobind Ghat. | The first glimpse of Gobind Ghat, notice the lack of water in the normally torrid river. |
Hundreds upon hundreds of motor bikes parked as Sikh youth take their summer holidays visiting Guru Sahib Ji's asthaans. |
The bridge over the river which was almost dry. |
| The first leg of the journey starts. | The second more steep journey to Hemkund Sahib. |
| Past the now retreating Hemkund glacier. | Looking down at the sangat making their way up. |
| The arrival is a welcome relief with a quick dip in the freezing sarovar. | Dhan Guru Granth sahib Ji. |
| The weather was bright and sunny. | Everyone trying to spot the seven Nashan Sahib's. |
