When emperor Aurangzeb died there was a struggle for power between his sons. Tara Azam declared himself emperor in Delhi, but the rightful heir was Muazzam he went to Lahore and claimed the title of Bahadur Shah. He had heard that Guru Ji was a person of spiritual disposition and harbored not grudge against any one. He sought Guru Ji's help in gaining the throne. He also promised to look into any grievance that Guru Ji may have against the emperors house. Guru Ji blessed the prince and assisted him in the bloody battle near Dhaulpur. Mohammed Azam was killed by an arrow from Guru Ji's bow, thus helping Bahadur Shah gain the throne.
